Job Description

Posted on: March 6, 2025

Homeflow is a market-leading, fast-growing, profitable, software-as-a-service (SaaS) business in the property market, and we’re looking to grow significantly over the next two to three years. We think we’re a lovely team of people with a fantastic company culture that we want to retain as we grow - ambitious, hard-working and collaborative yet respectful of work-life balance. You can expect to feel welcomed and supported by some truly talented people, in a company that is constantly innovating.

We are looking for a senior level backend developer, based in the UK, to support the growth of the team as the company matures. This role will work with our other backend developers to support our backend lead, covering typical BAU client tickets as well as tackling some older improvements. This is a great opportunity for the right person to take on a challenging and broad role. Homeflow is operating on a fully remote basis for the foreseeable future but some travel will be required for team meetings.

Typical job tasks include:

  • Designing and developing new features, including writing user stories
  • Devising technical strategy and best practices with senior staff in the development team
  • Actively contributing to team discussions in stand-ups and retrospectives
  • Diagnosing and fixing backend bugs to maintain system reliability
  • Adding test coverage to legacy applications
  • Improving continuous integration/delivery pipelines
  • Furthering knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience developing software
  • Confident with Ruby/Ruby on Rails - this could be current or recent past experience
  • Experience with test-driven/behaviour-driven development, particularly RSpec
  • Proven ability to write readable code and efficient, scalable software
  • Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to independently break down complex tasks and develop well-structured solutions
  • Ownership and autonomy, making independent decisions while knowing when to seek input.
  • Clear communication, effectively conveying technical concepts, decisions, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

It would be a bonus if they also have:

  • Experience with static code analysis tools such as Rubocop, Brakeman
  • Proficiency with both document and relational database systems (particularly MySQL, MongoDB, Docker)

People who thrive in this role at Homeflow are collaborative, not afraid to ask questions, open to new ideas and learning, and are motivated and ready to get stuck in. They also embody our company values of being driven, open, polished and pioneering.
