Several tech companies in the Bay Area have announced a new wave of layoffs, impacting thousands of jobs in the region, as detailed in recent WARN notices sent to the state Employment Development Department. The job cuts for 2025 have already surpassed 2,000, with February alone accounting for over 1,700 layoffs.

The following companies have reported significant job cuts:
- Cruise: 739 layoffs in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and South San Francisco, effective April 5.
- Workday: 617 layoffs in Pleasanton, scheduled for April 6.
- Salesforce: 153 layoffs in San Francisco, anticipated on April 25.
- Walmart: 77 layoffs affecting tech and e-commerce roles in San Bruno, on June 13.
- Asana: 77 layoffs in San Francisco, which occurred on February 4.
- Okta: 56 layoffs in San Francisco, set for April 8.
- Infineon Technologies: 33 layoffs in San Jose, expected on February 14.
- Renesas: 3 layoffs in San Jose, scheduled for March 16.
Job Cuts Overview
The tech industry in the Bay Area is experiencing a rocky start to 2025, with the total layoffs disclosed already nearing the totals from the previous two quarters. In the last two quarters of 2024, layoffs totaled over 2,600 and 2,300 respectively. The current pace of job reductions indicates a challenging environment for tech workers in the region.
