Embedded Systems Developer (Nordic)
Job Description
Posted on: April 2, 2025
We’re looking for an experienced Firmware Developer to perfect our advanced smartcard integrating secure payments and smartwatch technology. You’ll work remotely from your own location, joining a global team dedicated to producing high-quality, security-driven firmware.
Key Highlights:
- Enterprise-Grade Solution: Our technology will be adopted by leading banks worldwide, so it must meet rigorous reliability and security standards.
- Firmware Enhancement: The existing firmware is ~80% complete. You’ll fix bugs, strengthen security, and optimize performance.
- Smartcard & Smartwatch: Develop secure payment provisioning, implement robust encryption (TLS/nested TLS), manage battery optimization, and interface with displays, touchscreens, and other peripherals.
- Security & Audits: Code undergoes intense security audits for payment certifications, requiring meticulous attention to detail.
- Expert Guidance: We’re guided by Fime in payments and security to meet certification requirements, and supported by Smart Consulting (France) to ensure best practices in secure payment and firmware development.
- Patent & Innovation: Our team holds over 100 patents, and much of our work pushes boundaries—achieving what’s never been done before.
What You’ll Do:
- Debug, refine, and enhance our existing firmware (~80% operational).
- Implement secure payment provisioning (smartcard-based) utilizing a secure element, including handling provisioning responses, and managing secure card updates.
- Develop secure data parsing and forwarding using industry-standard message structures (e.g., TLVs), interfacing seamlessly between multiple components.
- Strengthen firmware security (TLS/nested TLS, encryption, secure asset transfer), including TLS over BLE for secure communication.
- Optimize performance for battery efficiency, including e-paper display power management to match battery constraints, BLE connectivity, and display responsiveness.
- Produce clear, detailed documentation for security audits and integration with external teams.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Published Mobile Wallet or Wearable App: Strongly preferred if you’ve previously implemented contactless credit card provisioning and payment on mobile or wearable devices.
- Nordic MCU proficiency (nRF5340 dual-core MCUs, nRF Connect SDK, Zephyr RTOS).
- Hands-on experience with smartcard technology, payment provisioning, and tokenization.
- Familiarity with smartwatch or wearable firmware (BLE, battery optimization, display/touchscreen drivers).
- Strong understanding of secure coding standards, encryption, and error handling.
- Effective collaboration (CI/CD, code reviews) and clear communication skills.
Why Join Us?
- Global Collaboration: Work with top engineers across continents in a diverse, supportive environment.
- Cutting-Edge Projects: Shape the future of smartcard-based payment solutions and smartwatch tech—direct impact on a near-market product.
- Industry Expertise: Benefit from guidance by Fime (in payments and security) and support from Smart Consulting (France)—leaders in secure payment and compliance.
- Innovation & Growth: Challenge yourself with complex firmware and security tasks, broadening your skills in a thriving sector.
