Job Description

Posted on: April 1, 2025

Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. Our critical communications, video security and command center technologies support public safety agencies and enterprises alike, enabling the coordination that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals and safer businesses. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview

Our Guardian Command development team provides mission critical software to UK emergency service agencies, with our primary focus on control room and mobile solutions including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Mobile Data.

Guardian Command CAD has been hugely successful over the last few years, winning almost every competitive opportunity in the Fire market. We aim to continue our success in Fire, and extend our Police presence over the next two years.

Guardian Command CAD and Mobile Data (and supporting products) are used 24/7 by emergency service agencies to deliver emergency and non-emergency response to ensure public safety. Our solutions are hosted at Motorola’s secure hosting services, and accessed remotely.

Based in Leicester, we are a recent acquisition by Motorola, and have around 50 employees. We have been developing solutions since the 1980s, and always strived to be innovative and forward thinking. Now, as part of Motorola Solutions, we continue to expand with future opportunities in the UK and beyond.

We have a relaxed but hard working environment where jeans and t-shirts are the norm and good ideas and debate are encouraged.

You’ll have the opportunity to join us at social events and team sessions.

Job DescriptionThis position is primarily remote, but will require occasional travel as needed.

As a Product Owner in our dynamic software development team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products. The primary responsibility of this role is to act as the bridge between stakeholders, development teams, and end-users, ensuring that the software aligns with business goals and user needs. The Product Owner will be responsible for defining and prioritising features, creating user stories, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

We are looking for someone who wants to work on products that genuinely make a difference to people’s lives. You don’t necessarily need experience in Product Ownership, but you must have transferable key skills.

You will be a good communicator, confident making decisions day to day. You’ll have a desire to continually develop your skills. You won’t be afraid to pick up a new product, self-learn and ask questions. You are someone who takes pride in their work and is interested in bettering products. You will work closely with the Product Manager who will remain responsible for the product vision and strategy.

You will be able to, or learn to, help write and refine software work packages from customer requirements, into a language that software engineers and other stakeholders can understand. You will track progress on the work packages daily, through communication with the software team and through the daily update meetings. You will help the Product Manager review the software development against the acceptance criteria and feedback any issues to the software developers.

You will also be able to help answer the questions of the software team about the work packages, either from your own knowledge, or by liaising with the Product Manager or other Subject Matter Experts.

Over time, you will take on greater responsibility for translating customer requirements, generation of the work packages and the overall product development process.

This role involves learning a significant amount of domain knowledge and some technical skills over a period of time. We are looking for people who want a long term and stable role with career progression within the organisation rather than a short-term career progression role.
